Jack Fisher (1921-2013), was born in Greenock. At the age of four, his family relocated to China where he was educated. Jack returned to Scotland just before WW2 and joined the RAF; instructing flight mechanics servicing and repairing four-engined bombers. In 1946, he commenced his garage business in Edinburgh. Over the following thirty years he was to design, construct and race some twenty-two specials. As a result of performances in his early motor racing, he developed a good reputation with customers who owned fine sporting cars.
In later life, a measure of the respect enjoyed by Jack was evident whenever he visited Bo’ness or Doune Hill Climbs to see his old cars in action. He was invariably surrounded by older enthusiasts, be they drivers, such as the late Kenny Allen, ‘scribes’ like David Ross and most notably photographer Bill Henderson, who was a good pal of Jack’s since 1946.
This wee book traces and records detail and records of the extraordinary enthusiasm and ground-breaking achievements of a gifted and determined Scottish engineer.
